May Ball

May Ball, May 10th 2008

The Education Abroad Program held a farewell cruise ball for the University of California Exchange students in the UK. It gave us a chance to see each other again since the orientation as well as meet UK students that were going to study abroad in California next year.

Early that day I met up with my high school English teacher Ms. McBride for lunch. She currently teaches in London but is going to be teaching in Marin, CA next year. I also met her fiance, Rhys, who was very nice.

Afterwards I met up with Rebekah and Serena at St. Paul's. From there we headed to the famous Harrod's where we found their fancy shmancy restrooms and changed into our formal dresses there.

We headed for Westminster Pier to meet up with everyone else.

I was looking forward to seeing all the other UC students as well, but I didn't anticipate just how exciting a reunion it was going to be. We only got to know each other for 3 days back at the end of September and when we saw each other again it was like a high school reunion.

Here's most of everyone

The cruise was so much fun! We sat outside and watched all the sights go by and rushed to take pictures of them before it was too late- someone actually said "Oh my god it's like we're on the tour buses again in September!"

Once it got dark (which took a long while I tell you) we retired to the lower deck to eat and dance, but at one point I had a moment to myself with the clear sky and Big Ben.

This is my friend Claire who went to Sussex. She's originally from San Diego.

After the cruise it was everyone's plan to pull an all-nighter and go out to clubs once we docked.
We found a place in Leicester Square called On Anon, which would have been nice had it not been for the sketchy guys. Thankfully none of them tried anything on me, but I was still worried for my friends.

Once we were done with the club, me and three other girls went to get curry fries and I ended up crashing on the floor of a hotel room that a few of my friends were staying in.
I slept for two hours before I met up with Rebekah and Serena to go back to Egham with the rest of the Royal Holloway girls, most of whom were with me already.
We had to wait for the tube station to open up first. That's how early we were up.

I basically went back to London as soon as I returned to Egham cuz I had to get back to Birmingham to finish my VERY LAST paper for the year which was a mere 2,000 words.

It was a long long weekend with the day trip and the ball but needless to say it was an excellent one.
